Three baseball teams advance to area

 

May 5, 2008 —The Cy-Fair, Langham Creek and Cypress Creek high school baseball teams all won their bi-district playoff series last weekend and will advance to area-round competition this week.

Cy-Fair defeated Mayde Creek, 7-4, in a one-game playoff on Friday. The Bobcats (21-7) will face Westside in a best-of-three series to be played at Jersey Village High School ( 7600 Solomon St .). The first game will be played at 7:30 p.m. on Thursday, Game 2 is set for 7:30 p.m. on Friday and Game 3, if necessary, is scheduled for 2 p.m. Saturday.

Langham Creek bested Cinco Ranch in three games, winning the first game 10-9 on Friday, losing the second game 10-7 on Saturday and clinching the series with a 4-3 Game 3 victory. The Lobos (24-7) meet Lamar in a best-of-three series beginning with Game 1 at 7:30 p.m. on Thursday at Ray Knoblauch Field at the Butler Sports Complex ( 13755 S. Main St .). Game 2 will be played at 7:30 p.m. on Friday at Langham Creek HS (17610 FM 529) and Game 3, if necessary, is scheduled for 2 p.m. on Saturday at Langham Creek.

Cypress Creek swept Katy Taylor with scores of 6-5 and 10-7 on Friday and Saturday, respectively. The Cougars (18-11) advance to play Memorial in a best-of-three series beginning with the first game at 7 p.m. on Thursday at Cypress Creek HS (9815 Grant Road). Game 2 is scheduled for 7 p.m. on Friday at Memorial HS (935 Echo Lane) and an if-necessary Game 3 is slated for 1 p.m. Saturday at Morton Ranch HS (21000 Franz Road) in Katy.

In other playoff competition, Cypress Woods fell to Katy in a best-of-three series, with scores of 4-3 and 7-4. The Wildcats finish their season with an 18-12 record as bi-district finalists and fourth-place finishers in District 17-5A.
